Club members from the SoCal area rolled out in two groups. The Friday group rolled out Friday afternoon from Torrance to caravan together heading for the Sheraton in Bakersfield for an overnight stay, while a Saturday group met up early to form a second caravan leaving from Los Angeles the next morning.
By 7:30 a.m., everyone had assembled in Bakersfield around the corner from the event and 15 Dodge Challengers rolled through the streets of Bakersfield and arrived at the event just behind the CenCalLX group coming in from the north which placed all of the modern Mopars at the event in one centralized location.
Anticipating temperatures in the 90′s, club members took to setting up a spot for shade and relaxation which took no time at all. Some then went to enjoy breakfast at restaurant at the location while others took the opportunity to check out some of the great cars in attendance in anticipation of completing their People’s Choice ballots.
As the morning turned to afternoon, a light wind whisked up and kept everyone cool throughout the day despite the high temperature. 17 club members and a special guest, all found comfort in the shade among the 15 club Challengers and enjoyed some great conversations.
Noon time came fast and after touring the grounds, inspecting the cars on display, and turning in our voting ballots, the club members broke into two groups and headed over to the restaurant for lunch where we were catered to like kings.
Some club members were lucky enough to win some prizes in the raffles that were taking place during the day, but it was at the awards presentation where club member Julie once again took first place with her yellow supercharged SMS Dodge Challenger in the new Challenger class. Tom with the CenCalLX club took second place with his Hemi Orange Dodge Challenger complete with a True Fire painted Shaker hood, iridescent orange side stripe, and custom interior. Both cars were worthy and deserving of their awards.
As the car show came to an end, the club members left in several groups. One group stopped off in Valencia at a local Wendy’s where the cars attracted quite a bit of attention from those inside, including those working the drive-thru window who took turns peering outside at the cars while many of their co-workers assembled in the parking lot to take pictures.
The entire day was quite pleasant and we’re happy that West Coast Challengers has expanded its reach to include the Bakersfield area as we have found many great club members there and were introduced to few new people this weekend who have expressed interest in becoming club members as well.
