West Coast Challengers was graciously invited to attend the 13th Annual MOPARTY car show sponsored by the Antelope Valley MOPAR Club, with proceeds going to a local Fallen Heroes Fund. Club members were scattered to the four winds this weekend, attending many events across the southland, but some of our central California club members together with some of our northern Los Angeles club members set their eyes on this car show.

Club members met up in one of two locations. The first group met at Denny’s restaurant in Sylmar, CA, to caravan together to a second meeting location; while a second group, coming down from central California, met just down the street from the event and waited for the Los Angeles club members to arrive, which also gave those members time to wipe down their cars and remove the bugs and road debris picked up after traveling over a hundred miles.

Once everyone from the two groups were present and accounted for, the club members caravanned over to the event. This year, the event was held at the JetHawks Stadium and the cars were parked under covered parking to protect them from the heat that was expected in the afternoon.

On hand at the event were many cool vintage Mopars, as well as modern Mopars which our club represented. PT Cruisers of Orange County also made an appearance at the event and were parked just behind the club. Great group of individuals with some cool modifications done to their cars.

Trunk full of raffle prizes

The club’s luck started as soon as we arrived at the event. Club member Nolan bought a long steam of raffle tickets and began winning one raffle prize after another filling his trunk with prizes throughout the day. Not to be out done, club member Miguel also bought a stream of tickets and he too won a lot of prizes, including a free cake from Cold Stone Creamery, which he picked up on the way home from the event.

Mopar Thunder Competition

At around 2:30 pm the Mopar Thunder competition began. This was a contest for the best sounding car. Club members Nolan and Miguel both entered the event. Sadly, Nolan was knocked out in the first round as his Zoomers exhaust could not match the sound of the older Mopars with cut-outs. Club member Miguel, with his exhaust system and long tube headers, moved into the finals. Unfortunately, Miguel lost to a vintage Duster with cut-outs. You just can’t win against uncorked headers, but both club members gave it a good shot. :)

As the afternoon wore on it became time for the awards presentation ceremony. As the club members gathered around, it was club member Nolan, with his 2012 Gloss Black R/T, who was first win a trophy in the modern coupe class – 2nd Place, Mild Mopar. Just a few seconds later, club member Miguel, with his 2010 TorRed SRT, grabbed 1st Place, Mild Mopar. Then again, club member Mike, with his 2010 Hemi Orange SRT, snatched up the trophy for 1st Place, Wild Mopar; beating out a Dodge Viper as well as a rival club member’s Challenger. And had it ended there, it would have been a terrific day, but it wasn’t over yet. The Club Participation trophy went to none other than West Coast Challengers itself. Four trophies for the day. Fantastic!

Club Participation Trophy

It is the policy of our club, that any club participation trophy that is won by the club will be raffled off to those in attendance who helped win it. The names of the club members present were placed into a hat, and it was lucky, raffle winning, trophy winning, club member Nolan who’s name was drawn. He won the raffle for the club participation trophy, his to keep and take home. Enjoy!

After the awards presentation ceremony, the club members gathered up their trophies and raffle prizes, and all headed home, happy having attended this MOPARTY event.

Congrats to all of the winners as well as all of those who came out to support this event, Special thanks to the Antelope Valley MOPAR Club for inviting the club and being such gracious hosts. Kudos to their club members for making West Coast Challengers feel right at home.
