West Coast Challengers held its 1st Annual "Charcoal & Challengers" club BBQ and family day event. Club members were invited to bring their families and pets to a local park for a day of relaxation, fun and games, and of course plenty of food and refreshments.

Club members began meeting up 7:00 a.m. for a short caravan into Yorba Regional Park in Anaheim, California, where the club had reserved both a picnic location and a parking area large enough to hold all of the club members who expressed interest in attending. Once inside of the park, within a half hour, donuts and breakfast burritos were being served.

The club gave the members time to relax a bit after breakfast. Some took a stroll around the lake, some rented bicycles, some checked out the 36 Dodge Challengers in the parking lot, while others simply sat back and relaxed while chatting with fellow club members.

Club members were invited to bring along not only their families, but their pets as well — and many did. All of the pets were well behaved and enjoyed the park. But I think it was the children who caused the most laughs throughout the day, with the exception of the adults participating in the watermelon eating contest.

Some club members stayed all day and others just stopped by to say hello and catch a hamburger. Some 40 club members attended which put the group at more than 70 people around lunch time. The barbeques were lit and club chefs began cooking up hamburgers and hot dogs. Club members brought out a variety of dishes, from smoked turkey, macaroni and potato salads and more. Three picnic tables were needed just for the food alone. One for the hamburgers, hot dogs and turkey, one for the salads, and one for the deserts. Yet another was needed just for the refreshments. No one was going home hungry or thirsty, that was for certain.

The club had set up an itinerary of games and events for the club members to enjoy throughout the day, from a Piston Toss contest to a game of Guesstures to a watermelon eating competition to a relay race. Trophies were awarded to the winners of each event. For the children, the club brought out two pinatas which were humorously shaped like a Chevy Camaro and a Ford Mustang. We’re not sure who enjoyed them the most, the children or the club members. :)

Many of our new club members came out to enjoy the day with us and it was a pleasure meeting them all. I can’t think of a better club event to attend their first time. One of our veteran club members I think put it best, “It was great not having to worrying about car show judging or waxing up the cars, this event was more about the club members and not so much about our cars,” which we think everyone found to be a very refreshing change of pace.

Needless to say or to judge by the turn out of club members, the club’s 1st Annual “Charcoal & Challengers” event was a huge success. Thank you all for coming out to enjoy the day with your fellow club members and Mopar enthusiasts.
