One of the club’s most popular events, West Coast Challengers held its 3rd Annual “Cruisin’ thru the Canyons” event which began with club members meeting up in one of several pre-meeting locations from which to caravan to the main meeting location from. Club members met up in the Inland Empire, Orange County and Los Angeles County to caravan from. By 9:00 am, the various groups began rolling into the main meeting spot and staging area in Woodland Hills, CA. While waiting for others to arrive, both new and old club members gathered around and introduced themselves and traded stories of their latest modifications to their Challengers.

Outdoing last years’ event, we had 40 Challengers arrive on site this year and we all lined up together which attracted the attention of many passersby and more than one random Challenger and now prospective club members.

As we do with all of our events, the club members were briefed on the day’s events. Several cruise routes had been mapped out the month before and, at the driver’s meeting, the club members were given the choice of which route they preferred. Hands down, the club chose to circumnavigate the Santa Monica Mountains rather than route the end of the cruise through the city of Santa Monica itself.

Because we had 40 Challengers in attendance for this event, it was decided to break into two groups, leaving 15 minutes apart, making the cruise much more manageable and enjoyable for all. Being the World’s Largest Challenger Club does have its disadvantages at times, large turnouts such as this being just one, but one we enjoy time and time again and have learned to overcome it in our amazing success and popularity.

This years’ cruise began by taking Mulholland Highway all the way down to the Pacific Coast Highway where we had a pit stop and Neptune’s Net, a local seafood restaurant in the area. After our pit stop, we continued down Pacific Coast Highway, in a single group of 40 Dodge Challengers in single file. Traveling for about a half hour, passing such landmark locations as Zuma Beach on our route up the coast. On the return trip, club members chose to pick up Topanga Canyon for variety and then turned inland through yet another series of canyons before reaching our final destination back in Woodland Hills. Returning to where we started, club members divided up to eat at one of the many local eatery of their choice nearby.

All in all, club members passed through more than a dozen canyons on this year’s cruise and we had a great drive along the coast with the gorgeous blue Pacific Ocean on one side of us and the lush green canyons on the other. The weather was as perfect as it could be and typical for a sunny California weekend. Perfectly clear blue skies and cool temperatures made for an absolutely fabulous cruise, and one we know the club members will be talking about for a while to come.
