West Coast Challengers held its 4th Annual “Cruisin’ thru the Canyons” event which began with club members meeting up at the foot of the San Bernardino mountains. This year’s canyon cruise would take us along the Rim of the World Highway and through the small mountain communities of Rimforest, Skyforest, Lake Arrowhead and Arrowbear, for some awesome scenery and some great tree lined mountain roads.

As the clocked ticked towards our scheduled departure time, the club members were gathered around to be briefed on the day’s events and maps of our route were handed out. Once everyone was briefed and all questions answered, the club formed its caravan and started its trek up the mountain and through some beautiful canyons.

Part way up the mountain, we did find a turn out that would fit all of the cars, so we pulled in for a quick photo opportunity.

Prior to the cruise, the club had contacted Blondie’s Grille, a local restaurant in Arrowbear, CA, and they were gracious enough to work with us and to provide a custom menu just for the club members, as well as reserving some parking spaces for us in front of the restaurant, which garnered quite a few horn honks and thumbs up from passing motorists.

Today was Diane’s birthday. Diane is the wife of club member Don. As she excused herself to go to the restroom, the club members were all informed of her birthday and a round of happy birthday was prepared. As she emerged from the restroom, the entire restaurant erupted in a thunderous applause to her absolute surprise and amazement. Then came the signing of Happy Birthday. The club bought both Diane and Don lunch in celebration of her birthday and for them spending this special day with the club.

After a great lunch, the club members rolled out once again. At our meeting spot in the morning, the members decided to take a detour and drive through Lake Arrowhead adding some more driving time to the cruise.

On our route down the mountain, we found another large turn out and the club quickly pulled in for another photo opportunity with the cars.

We ended the cruise at a local park in San Bernardino, CA, where club members decided to hang around a bit a chat about everyday events and, of course, our cars.

This was another great club cruise and worthy of the many kudos it received from the club members. We all look forward to next year’s “Cruisin’ thru the Canyons” event.
